hiii Happy Thursday.
Tuesday this week I volunteered with the Chicago Literacy organization,Β Open Books.
We we were learning about #poetry and the art of #spokenword poetry, which is sometimes also called #poetryslam.
The 3rd graders from Willow Creek Elementary were given the objective of writing their own individual poem to share with the class.
Open Books provides volunteer opportunities that are available to the public to work with students. The volunteering classes and workshops provides a place for students to learn and develop their writing, reading, and overall English skills. Tuesday at Open Bookβs downtown location was truly a great time hanging with students and other volunteers helping students learn more about poetry and providing a place for the students to show some confidence in sharing their original creative written works of poetry and stories.
I also volunteer with Open Books at a local #Chicago Elementary school where I am a Reading Buddy to two different 3rd grade students. The Reading Buddies program is one of a couple of in-school volunteer opportunities that is available through Open Books.
For more information on #OpenBooks and what they do and how to be involved and connect to their great organization and volunteer opportunities check their website here:
Peace and Love everybody, and enjoy the day.
